Portraits- Seminar 1

Introduction to Photography

Seminar 1

(Brian Larkman)

This was my first seminar with Brian and my first seminar within Introduction to Photography on this course. Brian started by introducing us to examples of portraiture within photography and the differences between the ways in which men and women are photographed and portrayed differently. We were given a task to photograph another member of the course using natural lighting and manual settings with our cameras.

I decided to use a girl, photograph her inside using a window as both my source of light and a frame for my shot composure. Brian had also asked us to take 3 photographs using different light sources and directions: Front Light, Back Light and Side Light.

Using the technical aspects Brian had asked for and in the time required I felt I used my skills to take successful portraits of my subject.
